In 2007, we questioned why brilliant Canadian founders should have to jump on a flight to SF to raise seed capital. We also believed that VCs should play a role in accelerating the creation of world-class tech ecosystems by providing support beyond the companies for whom they wrote cheques, so we rolled up our sleeves and built projects that served founders’ needs. Fast-forward 13 years and Real has invested in over 280 companies, grown a network of 1000+ founders, raised over $330M across 5 early-stage funds, witnessed Canada’s transformation into the home of multiple top-20 global tech hubs, and seen the Valley’s best VCs jumping on flights from SF & NY to Canada to back industry-defining companies.
