Trade accelerators offer a comprehensive suite of services aimed at accelerating the process of entering new markets and expanding international business activities. These services include market-entry support, networking opportunities, introductions to potential partners and investors, educational resources, access to funding opportunities, and potential government and institutional partnerships.

The Trade Accelerator Program (TAP)

For companies beginning their export journey, the Trade Accelerator Program (TAP) presents an invaluable opportunity. Supported by the Trade Commissioner Service and organized in collaboration with local chambers of commerce across cities like Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax, TAP is a launchpad for developing robust export plans. This program is co-sponsored by government organizations such as Export Development Canada, in partnership with the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).

Participants in the TAP work towards creating an export plan, which is then reviewed by Trade Commissioners who offer valuable feedback and suggestions. Companies ready to take the next step can become Trade Commissioner Service clients, accessing a broader suite of services.

The Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) Program

At the forefront of trade accelerators is the Canadian Technology Accelerator (CTA) program, specifically designed for Canadian technology companies in the cleantech, life sciences, and digital and information and communication technology sectors. The CTA program, delivered by Trade Commissioners working in embassies, high commissions, consulates, and trade offices abroad, connects Canadian businesses with a global network of business-development experts across 12 tech hubs worldwide.

The CTA program offers tailored programming to fit the market and sector of each individual CTA, including advice from industry experts, assistance in market entry, support in obtaining capital, increased exposure, and introductions to strategic partners, potential buyers, or investors, all with the support of a dedicated Trade Commissioner.

CTA Impact and Success

Since its inception in 2013, the CTA program has achieved remarkable success, with more than 1,100 graduates who have collectively raised over $754 million in capital, generated $301 million in new revenue, and created partnerships with over 1,100 organizations. This success is a testament to the program’s effectiveness in helping Canadian companies grow and succeed internationally.
